Michael Gray Breaks Through the Noise with New LP ‘You & Me’

SPREAD THE WORD ON SOCIALS

The Full Intention veteran Michael Gray returns to his own Sultra Records with a collaboration-heavy 13-track LP that strips back digital stiffness for authentic disco and house roots.

Michael Gray has officially released his third studio album, You & Me, via his independent imprint, Sultra Records. Far from a simple compilation of clubs tracks designed for streaming playlists, the 13-track LP is a deliberate, cohesive body of work spanning soulful house, boogie, disco, and deep club grooves. While the commercial dance landscape often pushes producers toward disposable singles, the London-based veteran chooses an artistic evolution that builds directly on his long-standing legacy. From foundational global anthems in the 2000s to topping modern club charts, this project cements his enduring relevance in the global underground scene.

A Career Built on Dynamic Evolution

Understanding the weight of this release requires looking past the immediate tracklist. Michael Gray is not a legacy act resting on past achievements. As one half of the seminal UK house duo Full Intention, he helped define the shape of vocal and funky house across the late 1990s and 2000s. His solo breakout singles, including “The Weekend” and “Borderline,” became defining mainstream and club crossovers. However, instead of remaining locked in nostalgia, Gray pivotally adapted, carving a distinct lane as a premier authority in the modern disco-infused house revival. Operating through his own label, Sultra Records, he has consistently delivered high-tier club music, earning the title of global number one artist on Traxsource.

“I enjoyed making ‘Optimism’ 2 years ago, but I feel like my sound and creativity have developed further during the production of my third album ‘You & Me’.”

The Anatomy of ‘You & Me’

The strength of the record lies in its balance of analogue-heavy instrumentation, clever sampling, and a carefully curated roster of vocal talent. The focus single, a sophisticated reimagining of Maxwell’s classic “Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder),” features 29-year-old vocalist Bran Mazz, who contributes standout performances across four separate album cuts. Rather than using guest vocalists as mere compliance tools for radio hooks, Gray integrates their individual deliveries directly into the sonic architecture of the tracks.

The title track brings in Chicago house pioneer Mike Dunn, layered over a clever flip of Freeez’s post-punk disco staple “Flying High”. The record also features live percussion from Jamiroquai’s legendary drummer Derrick McKenzie on “Detonate” and “I Like The Way,” introducing a distinct human element that cuts cleanly through modern digital stiffness. With further contributions from Tania Foster, Kelli Sae, Sian Lee, and Dyanna Fearon, the album operates with a maturity that bridges authentic roots music with modern club dynamics.

London Launch and Label Extensions

The album rollout connects directly with a physical launch event in London. To celebrate the release, Gray is locked in for an all-night headline set at Night Tales Loft in Hackney. The night features direct support from Ethan Gray alongside live performances from the album’s vocalists, bringing the studio’s collaborative philosophy directly to the dancefloor. Simultaneously, the club-focused instrumental track “Universe” is already primed to transition into the broader circuit with a scheduled standalone release on Toolroom Records next month.
