UK electronic duo Nichols+Roark mark a significant career milestone this month with the release of their Full Circle EP on the legendary Renaissance imprint. A standout cut from the package, ‘Rhythm State’, perfectly encapsulates the pair’s evolution from Nottingham dancefloor regulars to established producers on one of the industry’s most prestigious labels. The track leans into a formative indie dance identity, driven by rolling basslines, tight percussive arrangements, and futuristic, sci-fi-tinged synths.
The Full Circle EP is the culmination of a three-decade relationship with the Renaissance brand. Over 20 years ago, the duo were fixtures at the label’s seminal parties across Nottingham, Ibiza, and London. Those early clubbing experiences provided the sonic blueprint for their current artistic direction. To debut on the label now represents a literal closing of the loop, transitioning from the crowd to the centre of the label’s contemporary release schedule.
At the heart of Rhythm State is the vocal hook “listen to the rhythm,” a deliberate counter to today’s fast-moving, skip-driven listening culture, inviting listeners to stay with the groove and experience its unfolding textures.
Musically, Nichols+Roark have carved out a space where modern progressive house textures meet a sharp indie dance edge. ‘Rhythm State’ showcases this hybridity, pairing an emotive, introspective undercurrent with the driving energy required for international dancefloors. They appear alongside Anthony Pappa at the Renaissance x Deep Underground ‘Rave In A Cave’ afterparty in Nottingham this April. This homecoming set will feature ‘Rhythm State’ alongside other cuts from the EP, marking a new chapter for a duo whose roots remain firmly planted in the UK’s underground heritage.
