Reelow on Groove, Global Stages, and the AI Revolution

Hungarian-born artist Reelow has become one of the most distinctive and respected figures in contemporary house and techno. A regular at Hï Ibiza and an established member of the Solid Grooves family.

Reelow’s rise from Budapest’s underground to global recognition has been built on instinct, persistence, and a refusal to conform. Behind the rolling basslines and chunky grooves lies a story of family heritage, musical discipline, and the hunger to evolve.

Born into a musically rich family – his mother a singer, his father a guitarist, and his grandfather a renowned music curator – Reelow was surrounded by rhythm from the start. “I was boxing when I was young and my mom was kind of forcing me to stick with the piano,” he recalls. “I didn’t want to do that, but today I’m saying yes, she did the right thing. Bless momma!” The discipline instilled through music lessons would later underpin his artistic precision, even if the young Reelow couldn’t have predicted the directions it would take him.

Though classically trained, he resisted being boxed into any single sound. “I’m not sure if Tech House is the right genre or the only one to pick,” he says. “I played House, Funk, Techno, Deep and Minimal all mixed up in my whole career. It’s like you can’t and won’t eat the same food every day.” That openness became the foundation of his style – a fluid mix of groove and grit, balancing underground pulse with broad appeal.

His early rise from Budapest’s local clubs to global stages like Fabric, Privilege, and Sankeys wasn’t luck. “The most important thing is not to force anything,” he explains. “When the smaller local clubs are making you feel you are ‘too big’ for that venue, do something that makes the industry and the bookers believe that. Start to produce music strategically on labels connected to the country or venue you want to play around.” The strategy worked. Releases on influential labels like Solid Grooves, Snatch!, Deeperfect, and Desolat quickly earned him support from figures such as Marco Carola, Loco Dice, and DJ Sneak.

“Every Sunday and Monday I was hanging on YouTube, checking the videos of Marco Carola or Loco Dice playing,” he says. “Lofi crunchy videos, but I always found something. That’s the motivation that we should never lose – even when you are playing with these heavyweight artists.”

As his sound matured, Reelow created Reecords, his own imprint dedicated to nurturing the next generation. “Reecords always supported and will support the new generation, the fresh blood, new talents mostly. I had the same love and support from the labels I released on in my early years, and that’s what Reecords is about. Good music, family.”

Despite performing on the world’s biggest stages, Reelow remains grounded. “The most important thing for me is not to get lost with these facts. Who cares, to be honest? As long as you love this game, you won’t even realize anything until you burn out. Our job is to channel energy through our music.”

Now, he’s preparing to evolve again. “My journey is about evolution and not safe mode,” he says. “I want to connect my music, my personality, and my people into a project that doesn’t exist yet. Hopefully I can speak about this soon. I’m also thinking about some live acts – it’s the best time. AI is everywhere.”

His trademark groove – what he calls the “69% swing” – remains central. “The bassline all comes after the dialogue or vocal. Call and response. That’s all it’s about.”

With his career now spanning top-tier releases and global tours, Reelow’s focus is shifting toward legacy. “We should really give space to our natural born musical talent,” he says. “AI will probably take over a lot of spaces. Let’s play more instruments, let’s work with musicians.”

For Reelow, the mission is simple: give back. “I’ve already got what I wanted when I was a kid – playing around the world and making people happy, so I’m safe. Now is my time to give back something to them. Love and reespects.”
