New German electronic music label, ‘Intercord’: Virgin attempts to reconnect with underground culture
What started as Virgin Records Germany has evolved into Intercord, a new German electronic music label moving beyond corporate branding to focus on artists, culture, and the electronic music floor.
For decades, the Intercord name has been tied to Germany’s electronic scene, introducing acts like Depeche Mode, Erasure, Yazoo, and Moby. In 2025, the label is reconnecting with its roots, bringing historical influence into the modern dance environment while keeping its underground energy intact.
The roster bridges generations and styles, featuring established names such as MEDUZA, James Hype, HUGEL, and Topic, alongside emerging talents like Leony, Ray Dalton, and Alle Farben. Intercord is positioning itself as a platform where rising artists and seasoned producers can collaborate, experiment, and push the boundaries of contemporary electronic music. The label’s focus is clear: maintain relevance on the floor while respecting the underground ethos that built German electronic music.
The team behind Intercord remains the same, but the label’s approach has sharpened. Dance music is more global, genre-blending, and visually conscious than ever, and Intercord is responding to that shift. At Amsterdam Dance Event 2025, the label will debut its renewed identity at its mixer in Soho House / Cecconi’s, featuring back-to-back DJ sets, surprise performances, and an exclusive look at its refreshed branding. The event highlights Intercord’s commitment to community, artists, and the underground scene while keeping its impact on international dance floors.
Beyond events, the label’s sublabel ZEITGEIST continues to release tracks that reflect current club trends while maintaining an underground edge. Hits like James Hype’s “Ferrari” and other floor-focused tracks underline Intercord’s ability to bridge past and present. In 2025, Intercord shows that a German electronic music label can balance legacy with contemporary relevance, focusing on music, artists, and cultural spaces to keep the scene alive, adaptable, and connected.
For the global electronic community, Intercord isn’t just a name—it’s a statement. It represents the intersection of underground influence, floor-ready energy, and forward-looking electronic culture, proving that a German label can remain a vital voice in the dance music world without losing its edge.
